If you’re hoping to start the weekend a little early like I am, then I have a treat for you. My kids are out of school on Monday, and we’re headed to the lake for quiet time with friends. One thing on my menu for the weekend: these Gin and Jam Cocktails. They’re super simple and tasty and just the thing for fall entertaining.
When my mister and I took a birthday trip to Charleston in January, I kept noticing jam cocktails on the menus of several trendy places. Not that we generally visit trendy places, but we were on vacay, and it seemed appropriate to celebrate/step out of our comfort zone. Ever since then, I’ve had “make jam cocktails” on my blog brainstorm list.
I’m so glad I finally decided to tackle this task. I chose gin with jam for a couple of reasons: (1) gin has a clean, woodsy flavor–perfect for fall, and (2) I wanted one of those gorgeous blue Bombay Sapphire bottles. No, I’m not even kidding. I’m a sucker for pretty things, and that bottle gives me all the heart eyes.
If gin isn’t your thing, you can certainly substitute vodka. Other things you’ll need: your favorite jam, club soda and a lemon. Don’t do alcohol? Simply omit and double up on the club soda.My favorite jam, Jammit! Jam, is made locally in Dallas. A dear friend introduced me to this incredible jam last year, and I’ve used it on everything from croissants and biscuits to pork tenderloin, and I may have actually eaten it straight from the jar…once or twice. The flavors are unique and oh-so-delicious. These three are my faves: Blueberry Balsamic Black Pepper, Cherry Clove Cabernet, and Blackberry Star Anise Merlot. And don’t let the alcohol scare you–it cooks out and what remains is rich, fruity and not-too-sweet jam.If you live nearby, you can find it at several local stores like Central Market and Whole Foods, as well as specialty stores. If not, you can buy it online or check here to see if it’s sold anywhere near you. Jammit! Jam makes a wonderful gift and is just the thing to have on hand for last-minute appetizers–just pour some on top of cream cheese and serve it with crackers.
And definitely try a Gin & Jam Cocktail–whatever jam you use. I found these cute little jam jars at World Market and couldn’t resist. World Market is having a Friends & Family Sale right now, and everything is 30% off with code EARLYFF. It’s a great time to stock up on extra dishes, glasses, table linens, and holiday decor. They’ve got fabulous Halloween/Thanksgiving decor, plus tons of beautiful Christmas things if you’re really on the ball with that kind of thing.
I was lucky to find this bar cart at Home Goods over the summer and spruced it up a little for fall. I’ve scaled way back on holiday decorations this year. Aside from my rose gold pumpkin vase (DIY found here), I’m sticking with fresh pumpkins, pine cones and then just rearranging things so that my home feels cozier. More on that in the next couple of weeks.
The bar cart will be getting plenty of use over the next few months. We generally host either Thanksgiving or Christmas, plus lots of little gatherings in between. I’ll have everything on hand for Gin & Jam Cocktails as well as my favorite Cranberry Mules.
Thanks for stopping by today! I’m signing off for the long weekend, but can’t wait to share with you more goodness next week.
