As I dished about on Friday, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts this week. Bloggers and shoppers alike go crazy over this sale and for good reason. Most retailers discount old inventory they’re trying to get rid of, but Nordstrom gives us mega-discounts on brand new fall and winter merchandise.
With literally thousands of items marked down, the entire thing can be a bit overwhelming. I’d love to help you make the most of it, so here are 5 tips to help you shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
1 | Take Inventory
Go through your closet, your husband’s closet, your kids’ closets. Find out what’s missing and what items you need for fall and winter. Yes, “need” is a relative term, but you know what I mean.
Your boots may need an upgrade. Your kids’ shoes and winter coats definitely don’t fit anymore. So, take inventory and make a shopping list of everything you’re hoping to find at the Anniversary Sale.
Beauty and home products will also be marked down (like a T3 blowdryer for $
200 $134, Bobbi Brown makeup kits for $26.50, and Voluspa candle sets for $48 $29.50) and make wonderful Christmas gifts!
2 | Identify Your Most-Worn Pieces
What items do you wear repeatedly in the cooler months? For me, my go-to fall outfit is skinny jeans, a cute top, and booties. Oh, and a great handbag. These are the things I’ll be looking for when I shop the sale.
If you’re a career girl, you’ll most likely want to keep an eye on workwear pieces. If your social calendar is packed (or you’re anticipating it will be), add cocktail dress or “date night” tops to your list.
3 | Browse the Catalog
You can take a sneak peek by looking through the catalog here. I’m already drooling over all the cute fall booties, and I even spy some my daughters will love (plus new Nikes for my son). Those items aren’t available on Nordstrom’s website yet, so write down the names of the things you’ve got your eye on.
The things featured in the catalog are usually some of the first to sell out–see #5 below. The catalog also gives you an idea of upcoming trends, but it’s not a full list of all the sale pieces.
4 | Set a Budget & Filter Your Finds
It’s tempting to blow your budget when you spy a designer handbag for half price. But, if that sale price is still way out of your price range, it’s not a wise purchase.
I’ll be posting about my top picks from the sale as soon as I can, but if you want to browse the sale on your own, filter your finds. Nordstrom makes it really easy to shop for each category, say Women’s Clothing, and then you can narrow it down by tons of different sub-categories, like Tops, for example. You can then add a price filter on it so that you only look at tops that fall within your price range. How’s that for smart shopping?
Oh, and if you really can’t resist that major designer markdown, consider buying it as your Christmas or birthday gift 🙂
5 | Shop Early
Early Access starts Thursday, July 13 for Nordstrom cardholders. Everyone else has to wait until July 21. Regardless of when you’re shopping, be prepared to pull the trigger quickly when you see something you like. Now is not the time to hesitate because the best stuff always sells out. (**If you do want to shop a sale now, take a look at my picks for Amazon Prime Day!)
If you’re between sizes or can’t decide on a color, go for both. Nordstrom offers free shipping and free returns and has the best customer service to make that super easy.
July 13th – Early access begins!
July 20th – LAST day of early access!
July 21st – Public access begins!
August 8th – Sale ends!
My sweet & super stylish sister is just as excited about this sale as I am, and she’s been sending me notes about her favorite finds for weeks. I cannot wait to share those with you!!
