Hello, friends! I hope you’re all enjoying your summer. I’ve been fully immersed in family time for the past couple of weeks, which is why you haven’t “seen” me much here on the blog. I’ve even stepped back from social media a bit, and it’s been a refreshing break.
I couldn’t resist sneaking in a 5 on Friday post this week. Here are some things I’ve been thinking about lately. Please excuse the randomness 🙂
One of my favorite sales of the year is happening soon–the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. If you haven’t shopped this sale before, I would highly encourage you to do so.What makes the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale so special? It’s your chance to save BIG on new fall/winter styles for the whole family. I know, I know. It’s summertime, and it’s 90+ degrees outside, and it might be hard to wrap your mind around winter coats and boots. But, I’m telling you–it’s the very best time to shop for the styles you’ll want/need in a few short months.
Think $269 over-the-knee suede boots (gorgeous!) for only $160 and $500 Tory Burch riding boots for under $300. These are just a couple of last year’s deals. Crazy, right?
I promise to do all the deal-scouring for you and will be posting a ton before and during the sale. If you are a Nordstrom cardholder, you can get early access to the sale starting July 13. If you don’t have a card yet, you can sign up for one and get a $20 Nordstrom note. The sale opens to everyone on July 21 and runs until August 6. Hop on over and see a little preview of all the sale goodness.
Speaking of sale, there are some crazy 4th of July sales happening now. Here are some of my favorite sale picks, including the cutest coverup for only $45, a gorgeous summer bag, and so many fun dresses, tops, and accessories:

I love it! It keeps book clutter at bay and has been so great for reading on the go. I also couldn’t resist this cute navy + white cover.
So far, I’ve finished The Sunshine Sisters, Rich People Problems, Into the Water, The Bright Hour, and It Happens in the Hamptons. With the exception of that last one, they’ve all been wonderful and entertaining, and I’d highly recommend them. And on the last one, I’m going with “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” I’m in the middle of Option B, and am loving that so far, as well.
What’s the 4th of July without yummy food? We always spend the holiday weekend at our lakehouse with both of our families. We usually make time for a trip to the nearby blueberry farm, which means I’ll be whipping up at least one huge batch of this crazy good Blueberry Crumble. It also works really well with fresh blackberries and/or raspberries. If you’ll let it rest for a while before serving, it won’t be quite as runny as you see in the first picture. I got a little impatient and camera happy there. Oh, and it tastes even better with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
If cooked fruit isn’t your jam, you’ll love this super easy Strawberry Shortcake. It’s something my mom always made for us growing up, and it’s such a fun and patriotic dessert.
Our family vacation to Maui is just 6 weeks away! One thing I love about the blogging world is being able to connect with so many people, and being able to ask for help when needed. So, here’s my plea: I need your Maui recommendations. Restaurants, activities, best luau, must-see attractions/beaches/places. You can either comment on this post, or send me an email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’m a bit nervous about the 8-hour flight. We’re a road trip family, and our kids haven’t been on a plane since 2011. Obviously, they’re much older now, so maybe I really shouldn’t be worried. But, if you have airport/plane tips, please pass those along, as well.
I can’t wait to have coffee on this beach every morning. With three kids in tow, it won’t be as peaceful as it was three years ago on our 10th anniversary trip, but still…
Enjoy your long weekend, friends. Happy 4th of July!
