Summer is my favorite time to catch up on reading. I’ve already started checking off books on my 2017 Summer Reading List and hope it inspires you to pick up a good book.
I always carry a book in my purse and pool or beach bag, and summer road trips and vacations also provide for more reading time than usual. I’m also a “mean mom” and require my kids to do summer reading. This keeps their reading skills sharp and also allows me some reading time of my own.
I generally like “light” reading in the summer–lots of chick lit and good beach reads, but I always throw in at least one biography and some non-fiction just to mix it up.
Into the Water– I read this over Memorial Day weekend and could hardly put it down. Same author as The Girl on The Train and full of the same type of thrills and suspense.
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine– Soon to be a movie by Reese Witherspoon. A quirky and fun love story.
The Sunshine Sisters– I’ve read everything Jane Green has ever written. So excited about this new release about a mom and the three estranged daughters she asks to help her end her life.
Five Presidents– An autobiography of a former Secret Service agent for Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford. I read his first book about Jackie Kennedy years ago and really enjoyed his stories about life inside the White House.
Option B– After unexpectedly losing her husband, Sheryl Sandberg was faced with helping herself and her children learn to live and love again. This book offers advice for building resilience in the face of setbacks. Getting great reviews.
The Power of Habit– I just finished this and am fascinated. Lots of research on how habits form and how we can use that to replace bad habits with good ones. Sugar is my bad habit…
It Happens in the Hamptons– What better setting for a summer read than the Hamptons?
Bear Town– By the same author as A Man Called Ove, which I adored.
Results May Vary– A newish author similar to Emily Giffin and Jennifer Weiner (known for good summer reads).
My Not So Perfect Life– I cannot wait for Sophia Kinsella’s newest novel.
Chasing Slow: Courage to Journey Off the Beaten Path– Famed stylist and blogger Erin Loechner turned away from the fast life and leaned into the grace of a slower life.
If you’ve read any good books lately, please let me know. I’ll add them to my list!
